This small shrine is in one of several crevices of Elephant Trunk Hill (Xiangbishan). Across from this another space holds a larger image of the Buddha.
This place of worship is tended to by young women in bright red robes who supply worshipers with the items required to make an offering. The heap of ash beside the small statue indicative of the number of who have offered incense over the years.
Many of Guilin’s 300,000 inhabitants are Zhuang, a Muslim people who at 12 million are China’s largest minority.
