Provincial Heritage Site No.99
This is the oldest log church in continuous use in western Canada. It was built by the local people in the winter months of 1862 and 1863, and came into being through the efforts of Archdeacon Cockran, founder of the Church of England Missions in the Assiniboine Valley.
It is of the Red River frame style with logs peeled and squared by hand. The walls were plastered with prairie limestone. Lumber for their own pews, including a kneeler and a bookrest, were supplied by each family.
he Colonial and Continental Church Society helped with the financing. The first incumbent was Rev. John Chapman, who was also the first priest to be ordained in Rupert¹s Land by Bishop Anderson.
