Tekapo, New Zealand. Church of the Good Shepherd. 1935

This small church was built of stone and oak in 1935. It sits on a bluff at the south end of Lake Tekapo, providing an expansive view of the lake from its single picture window.

Tekapo is derived from the Maori words for sleeping mat (taka), and night (po).

A few yards away from the church stands a statue of a collie, erected as a tribute to the sheep dogs that helped develop the MacKenzie country.
